Your role as a Research Engineer - BiomechanicsĀ at Movella

As a Research Engineer Biomechanics, you will be responsible for applied research aimed at delivering performance insights that will lead to new applications that combine biomechanical knowledge with current and future Movella products and motion tracking applications. You will be part of the Technology team and report to the Technology Director. You will be based in Enschede, the Netherlands.

Key challenges:

    • Capability to understand application requirements and to translate them into complex, state-of-the-art algorithms
    • Active role in identifying new research trends in biomechanics, sensor fusion and machine learning to facilitate human motion tracking and analysis
    • Design and develop multi-sensor algorithms to power our current and future motion tracking applications in the domains of health and sports
    • Lead research projects, delivering best-in-class solutions using sensor measurements combined with knowledge of biomechanics


Movella is looking for an self-driven Research Engineer Biomechanics. Someone who thrives in an environment where your decision making and problem solving skills are highly appreciated. You have:

  • Ph.D. in human movement science (biomechanics, kinesiology), engineering, biomedical or related field or MSc with several years of research experience is preferred
  • Command an advanced understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, biomechanical principles, statistical methods, and predictive analytics to produce experimental designs with an understanding of sport- performance and injury mechanisms.
  • Analytical skills and experience in gathering, interpreting, and analyzing data in clinical research and product development with experience in applying machine learning to design and develop products
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: non-linear optimization, statistical state estimation, Kalman filtering, sensor fusion, tracking algorithms
  • Excellent knowledge of Matlab/Python required. Knowledge of C/C++ preferred
  • Strong mathematical/analytical background, problem-solving skills, flexibility in acquiring new knowledge.
  • Working experience with physiological sensors is desired
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
  • Expertise in writing scientific publications and reports
  • Self-driven, good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, decision making and problem solving thinking
